The World Series of Poker has removed its new poker docuseries, No Limit, from YouTube after it was discovered that artificial intelligence was used to create fake quotes from poker player Alan Keating.

The move came after Keating publicly shared that words had been placed in his mouth without his knowledge or permission.

The World Series of Poker made the decision to delete the documentary series after Keating revealed that they had inserted words into his speech without his knowledge or consent.

He said in a now-deleted X post that AI made up some words attributed to him.

He added that the people who made the show never told him what the artificially generated lines would be before it ran.

WSOP Pulls the Series After Concerns Grow

The WSOP then announced in a statement that it would remove all episodes. Furthermore, WSOP stated that it would modify the series to better align with its values and rules.

Episode 5 featured one of the AI-generated quotations. “I like testing people’s will and putting people in tough spots and testing their will,” said an imitation of Keating’s voice in Episode 5.

The AI-generated quote was inserted between genuine audio clips of him, which led some viewers to mistakenly believe it was authentic.

The last six episodes have been taken down, and the ones that were still up have not been posted.

The series was planned in eight parts to lead up to the 2025 WSOP Paradise event. WSOP tweeted:

Producer Confirms AI Was Used

Later, Dustin Iannotti, the producer of the show and CEO of the production company Artisans on Fire, confirmed that AI was used in two short scenes.

In a post that he later deleted, Iannotti stated that the AI-generated voice was heard for a total of 10 seconds in Episodes 5 and 6.

According to Iannotti, the AI-generated lines were intended to be temporary.

Alan Keating was supposed to record his voice to replace the artificially produced version before the final cut was released. Those lines, though, were never taken out.

He stated that his team made a mistake and acknowledged that they failed to replace the audio as intended.

Furthermore, Iannotti stated that many cast members had already recorded their lines before the show began.

Unfortunately, the final stages of editing overlooked the AI-generated clips, which led to their accidental release.

When Keating found out about the problem, Iannotti called him to tell him what had happened and apologised.

He said that Keating and his team have been working together for more than a year, making content for Keating’s YouTube channel.

He stressed that everyone involved had no desire to hurt Keating’s image or make him look bad.

He said that everyone on his team knew how awful things were and took blame for the mistake.

Furthermore, Iannotti stated that these two quotes were the only ones generated by AI that appeared in the released version of No Limit.

There were no other artificial voice lines used in the series.

Nevertheless, the damage had already occurred.

When people discovered that AI had been used without their explicit permission, it raised questions about trust and transparency in the production of modern material.

What Happens Next for the No Limit Series

The WSOP has not yet announced the return date for the updated version of No Limit. Changes are currently occurring behind the scenes, which have put the entire project on hold.

From the beginning, the show aimed to offer a fresh and captivating perspective on the world of poker, highlighting prominent figures such as Daniel Negreanu and his wife, Amanda.

The show has lost its reputation for delivering compelling stories and providing behind-the-scenes access. Instead, the situation has become entangled in a debate over ethical concerns regarding the use of AI in media.

The WSOP still plans to release the entire eight-episode series; however, it will be challenging to separate the series from the chaos that occurred during its initial release.

Poker Community Reaction

Some poker fans are debating the appropriate and inappropriate use of AI in entertainment, especially when it risks affecting real people’s views and identities.
