The player with the most World Series of Poker Circuit titles is in another scandal.

There is a video online this week that shows Maurice Hawkins getting into a fight during what looks like a private underground poker game.

Poker pro Rob Kuhn posted the video online on Thursday. It went viral very quickly and has caused a lot of discussion in the poker community.

The video shows Hawkins and another man fighting. The other man is throwing punches at Hawkins while Hawkins tries to put him down.

In the background, you can hear people yelling as the short but wild fight erupts.

A few hours later, Hawkins put up his video to tell his side of the story. His video doesn’t show the fight itself.

What it really shows is people leaving a house through the back door and entering a backyard area with a grill. This proves that the game really did happen at someone’s residence.

Hickins wrote in his post that the other player tried to “sucker punch and sneak attack” him before the fight started, saying that he was the victim.

What Started the Fight?

No one knows exactly what started the fight, and Hawkins’ tweet didn’t provide many details.

An unnamed source informed PokerNews that Hawkins had been boasting about his boxing skills. Another player at the table, Tray Rock, asserted that Maurice was not the aggressor in the attack.

Rock claims that the two guys started to argue about their nationalities.

Hawkins told the other guy they could “box about it," so he got up and punched him while he was still sitting. Rock alleges that Hawkins didn’t see it coming.

However, Hawkins’ video portrays a different scene and does not show him being hit while he is sitting down.

After PokerNews released its version of what happened, Hawkins wrote in a post on Friday evening that he would sue the media outlet.

At the moment, it’s still not clear what happened because there isn’t a full video of the whole incident.

Hawkins and Ongoing Controversies

Despite Hawkins's lack of violence, his name has been associated with numerous controversies.

This year, at the Horseshoe Tunica stop, he topped the $400 monster stack to win his nineteenth WSOP Circuit ring.

Soon after, Denise Pratt, a regular on the Circuit, claimed that he wouldn’t refund her for backing him in several events.

Hawkins used Pratt’s money to run deep in several events, including the one he won, but he didn’t give her a penny of the money he won.

Her claims brought up a familiar issue from 2019: Hawkins lost a court case to Randy Garcia, a former backer who claimed that Hawkins didn’t pay him.

After a while, Garcia wrote that he still hadn’t gotten the six-figure sum despite the court ruling.

Even though these financial concerns are still going on, Hawkins continues to be successful on the felt.

Since then, he’s won two more rings, giving him a total of twenty-one. This is still the most rings ever won in WSOP Circuit history.

Sadly, fights between players in poker constantly happen. A player at Red Rock Casino was knocked out during a fight in May of last year.

Italian poker player Michele Nizzardelli was kicked out of a European Poker Tour event in 2023 for fighting someone he had just eliminated.

In 2020, an Aria dealer struck a player after yelling and throwing beer at him.

Poker Community Reaction

There has been a lot of talk in the poker world about this latest fight, and many people have responded to the video that was shared online.
