The Reg-Fish system in Hand2Note is a built-in mechanism for recognizing the types of players: regulars (professionals) and fish (amateurs). Hand2Note divides all opponents into these two categories. Regulars are players with a large number of hands played, usually playing at a professional level, while "fish" are amateurs with irregular, non-standard play and a small number of hands played. This separation is important because the behavior of regulars and fish is significantly different: mixing Reg-Fish hands in general statistics can seriously distort the data. Using the Reg-Fish system, Hand2Note players have the opportunity to customize the HUD and reports separately for each group, exclude irrelevant hands from calculating statistics, and generally adapt the strategy more precisely.

Configuring the Reg-Fish system in Hand2Note

To start using Reg-Fish, you need to set up the recognition criteria and color tags:

The parameter "Who is the Reg?".

Open Configuration → Game Types and select the appropriate game type (for example, 6-max cache). In the "Who is regular" tab, set the conditions under which Hand2Note will consider the player to be a regular. By default, Hand2Note offers simple criteria: number of hands ≥10, VPIP ≤35%, PFR ≤30%, VPIP-PFR difference ≤10%, limps ≤20, or just hand volume ≥20,000. A player who does not meet these conditions is considered a fish. Adjust these values to suit your playing style.

Color labels for players.

By default, Hand2Note offers 2 categories: "Regular" and "Fish". To configure it, go to Configuration → Color Markers. In this window, you can add any number of labels at your discretion by clicking the "Add color marker (4)" button. In the lobby or HUD itself, click on the color marker cell of the player's nickname to change the label. Be careful: after manually setting the tag for the player, automatic detection of Reg/Fish for him is disabled. In other words, a manually inserted label takes precedence over any filters.

HUD and statistics for Reg/Fish.

Hand2Note allows you to display different HUDs and statuses for regs and fish. In the HUD Editor, configure the panel so that its blocks are displayed only for regs or only for fish. To do this, set the condition Reg or Fish = Reg (or = Fish) in the properties of panels or cells. For example, you can create one HUD panel that is activated against regs, and another against fish. This allows you to show different stats for different types of players.:

  • For HUD "Against fish": property Reg or Fish = Fish.
  • For HUD "Against regs": Reg or Fish = Reg.

Separate stats in Stats Editor.

  • The "Reg or Fish" function (3)

Is a parameter (filter) of the player type: when creating statistics, you specify whether the desired player is considered reg or fish. In fact, you are telling Hand2Note "count these statistics only for those cases where the opponent is marked as Reg or as Fish."

  • The "Reg-vs-Fish action" function (4)

This is a more subtle option in the Stat Editor (added as a separate setting in recent versions). It allows you to explicitly include/exclude actions that are "reg vs fish" - that is, to filter situations by a pair of player types (for example, to include only actions where reg plays against another reg, and exclude hands where reg played against fish). It is necessary so as not to mix different types of hands and not to distort statistics.

The Reg-Fish exclusion option.

Hand2Note has a setting that automatically excludes Reg-vs-Fish hands from the regulars' statistics (so that their data is cleaner). In Configuration → Other, activate the Exclude reg-vs-fish hands from the stats sample option. Then Hand2Note will ignore all hands in which at least one player with a fish tag remains at the table. This provides more accurate data on opponents when there are no Chips left at the table.

Conclusion

The Reg-Fish system in Hand2Note is a simple but powerful tool that helps to separate the behavior of experienced players from the behavior of amateurs. This separation provides cleaner, more relevant data: you get accurate stats and HUD hints for each group separately and reduce the risk of erroneous conclusions when different types of players are mixed in the same sample.

The key point is that not everything in statistics is equal. Reg plays differently than fish, and if you want to make the right decisions at the table, adjust filters and panels for specific types of opponents. Use "Who is regular", color labels, Reg or Fish and Reg-vs-Fish action options where necessary, but always keep in mind the sample size: the tighter the filters, the fewer hands, the higher the noise.

☝️ A properly configured Reg-Fish system makes your analytics significantly more useful - HUD becomes smarter, stats are more accurate, and game decisions are more reasonable.
